NFL- Tennessee Titans beat the Houston Texans 20-17

A last minute field goal gave the Tennessee Titans a narrow victory over the Houston Texans. Rob Bironas provided the saving kick with less than a minute on the clock with the score in a draw at 17-17. Bironas, whose ability to make big kicks has become increasingly clear, proved to be the overall star of the game. Monday night’s kick went 53-yards, evincing memories of a game two years ago. Then, Bironas set an NFL record of eight field goals in a game against Houston, where he also kicked a final field goal to give his team a 38-36 victory in the last minute of the game. Tennessee had a very slow start in the season, suffering from 6 straight losses and no concrete plays or players; now, however, the team is on its fourth consecutive victory. The Titans seem to have found a way to balance their players and are now shining on the field. Houston had a chance to tie the game with one second left on the clock, but Kris Brown failed to complete a 49-yard attempt, with the ball swinging too wide. It was Brown’s second miss of the game and the second consecutive time the team had a chance to force the game into overtime. “The frustrating part for me is, we have 44 guys out there, busting their tails, and one guy out there not doing his job, which is me,” Brown said. “That’s the reason we lose the game. That’s hard. I’ve got to figure out what the heck’s going on, and I need to figure it out pretty quick.” Meanwhile, Vince Young is having a great run as starting quarterback for the Titans; he hasn’t lost a game as a starting quarterback and is showing strong potential, making a duplet with Baronas on Monday night. Four games ago, he replaced Kerry Collins, who was coming from a 0-6 losing streak as a starter. Houston coach Gary Kubiak said that the whole team was disappointed with the loss, especially since the players were performing well and struggling to win the game. The first quarter had ended with Houston up 7-0, but the teams were tied by the beginning of the second when Young sent to Kenny Britt for a 13-yard touchdown. The Texans regained the lead after a 12-yarder by Andre Johnson put the score at 14-7. Then Chris Johnson tied the score at 14-14 late in the second after a 36-yard run. Once in the third, Bironas scored a 50-yard field goal to bring a 17-14 advantage to the Titans. Kris Brown managed to equalize the score with a  29-yard field goal, but the Titans returned in the fourth with Bironas’ final 53-yard field goal. The Titans took the game 19-17. Houston will face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday while Tennessee will face the Arizona Cardinals. Will Tennessee be able to keep up its winning streak? Drafted in 2001 by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 5th round (147th overall), Stewart made his NFL debut in the Eagles’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 29, 2001, making 2 catches, including a 1-yard touchdown reception from Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb. Blood, Sweat, & Bears

Blood, Sweat, & Bears

$24.95

On the 25th anniversary of the Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX championship, one players unique odyssey to prominence remains especially remarkable. Richard Dent, a cornerstone of the Bears defense during their Super Bowl run, and a 2011 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was an 8th-round draft pick out of tiny Tennessee State in 1983. The tall and skinny rookie would become a 4-time Pro Bowl selection. Dent wound up his brilliant 15-year career with 137.5 sacks, eight interceptions, 13 fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns. Coming out of a small college with less fanfare than many of his high-profile peers, Dent talks about the inherent disrespect he received. The book, written with sportswriter Fred Mitchell, takes the reader behind the scenes of one of the fiercest, most dominant defenses in NFL history. Playing in the NFL during a time before violent helmet-to-helmet tackles were not forbidden, Dent discusses the direction of the current game in this candid book.

Excerpt: Terrell Eldorado Owens (pronounced ) (born on December 7, 1973) is an American football wide receiver. He is currently a free agent. A six-time Pro Bowl selection, and former holder of the league single-game reception record, Owens has been one of the dominant receivers of his era. As productive as he has been, Owens has been equally controversial, creating firestorms with almost every team he has played for as a professional. Owens played college football and basketball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and was selected in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Owens was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004 after a spat with 49ers front office members. Two years later, he was released and signed to another large pact by the Dallas Cowboys, only to be given his unconditional release on March 4, 2009 and signed by the Bills several days later. Popularly known by his initials, T.O., Owens is both renowned and reviled for his flamboyant touchdown celebrations, earning him many fines and his teams frequent penalties for his end zone theatrics. Terrell Owens was born to LC Russel and Marilyn Heard in Alexander City, Alabama. He grew up with three other siblings and was raised by his mother and grandmother. He enjoyed watching football, especially his favorite player, Jerry Rice. However, Owens grandmother initially forbade him from playing sports until high school. Owens attended Benjamin Russell High School, where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball and later became one of the best receivers in the league. Terrell Owens became a father to Terique Owens on September 25, 1999. Owens also has another child, named Atlin Owens; as of 2009, Atlin is still a toddler. Atlin, Owens’s second son, wa… More:

Excerpt: Jerral “Jerry” Wayne Jones (born October 13, 1942, in Los Angeles, California) is the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys NFL franchise. Jones attended college at the University of Arkansas and was a co-captain of the 1964 National Championship football team. He was an all-SWC offensive lineman for Hall of Fame coach Frank Broyles and a teammate of Neil Rosenberg and Jimmy Johnson. Jones eventually hired Jimmy Johnson to replace Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry when Jones purchased the Dallas Cowboys in 1989. Other notable teammates were Ken Hatfield, Jim Lindsey, and future Outland Trophy winner Loyd Phillips. Several future great head coaches were assistant coaches for Frank Broyles and the Razorbacks during his college career in Fayetteville including Hayden Fry, future legendary Head Coach at the University of Iowa, Johnny Majors, future Head Coach at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Tennessee, and most notably Barry Switzer, Hall of Fame coach of the University of Oklahoma. Jones would eventually go on to hire Barry Switzer to replace Jimmy Johnson as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 1994. Jones is one of a very small number of NFL owners who actually earned a significant level of success as a football player. After several unsuccessful business ventures (including passing up the opportunity to purchase the AFL’s San Diego Chargers in 1967), he began an oil and gas exploration business in Arkansas, Jones Oil and Land Lease, which became phenomenally successful. East Tennessee State University Football

$19.99

From the beginning, East Tennessee State University has placed great emphasis on creating a football program that would give their studentathletes training unlike any other for sportsmanship, leadership, and academic excellence. During its 80 years, the football program grew from barely fielding enough able-bodied students to going undefeated and winning its first bowl game. Although the program was discontinued after the 2003 season, there is a renewed commitment by the university to restore the program and its strong traditions with the help of the community and groups like the Buc Football and Friends Foundation.
