Sunday night marked the end of Season 4 for the Source Soccer League. Here are the final season standings:
1st: Smithville Pimps
2nd: Epic
3rd: LacesOUT
4th: DooM
5th: Better Luck Next Time
6th: Leet Feet Soccer
The final took place on Sunday, January 31st at 9:30 EST between the Pre-Season Champions - Epic, and the reigning SSL Champions - SvP. Epic has been in every single Championship Match for the ssL, so this wasn't anything new for them. During the season, Epic dominated SvP 13-4 in the 1st match, won by forfeit for the 2nd match, and tied for the 3rd match. Epic finished the regular season in 1st place with only 2 losses and was easily one of the most feared teams in the game.
SvP isn't a new face to the ssL Championships either. Although they didn't participate in Season 2, for all the other season's that they have participated in they wound up in the Championship game. Unfortunately for Season 4 though, SvP had a mid-season breakdown due to inactivity and roster issues. This resulted in multiple forfeits and SvP barely coming back in the end to take 4th place overall for the regular season.
The Championship Match itself was a very close fought battle.
Playing for SvP was:
Goal: 40
Left Defense: BJ
Right Defense: Reg
Left Wing: Church
Center: Panda
Right Wing: Dill
Playing for Epic was:
Goal: Arch
Left Defense: FaceMelter
Right Defense: KC
Left Wing: Fatal
Center: LoneWolf
Right Wing: Hatchet Harry
SvP got off to a good start with a goal when Arch went out of net to clear the ball, but Church was able to intercept and make a pass to Dillhole Sam for the goal. Within 30 seconds after the initial goal, LoneWolf received a defensive pass and got off an open shot on 40 to tie the game. Eventually SvP took a 4-2 lead, but Epic was able to score again with ~5 minutes left making it 4-3. Ultimately the time ran down with the ball in SvP's half of the feild, giving Epic one last chance for a goal during stoppage time. Dill got the ball and tried to clear it, but it was intercepted mid-feild. Epic had one more chance to make a play, but with all of SvP back on defense the ball wound up with Church who did a high clear over mid-field to end the game. 40 was awarded MvP for the match for his efforts in stopping multiple shots on net from Epic's offense, essentially preserving SvP's morale and ultimately the victory. This is SvP's 3rd SSL Championship and 2nd in a row, leaving them with a 3-0 Finals record.
Can SvP make it a threepeat? Stay tuned for S5 to start sometime in March to find out!
