How would one go about getting a tryout with a college Soccer Team?
Im a sophomore in college now..and coming out of highschool i didnt feel like playing college soccer but now i really want too, ive been playing for my colleges club team because they dont have an NCAA team, so i have been improving, im not 2 years rusty
Talk to the coach, of the college you want to attend, about scheduling a tryout. Don’t be shy because many coaches are always on the look out for talent. Just make sure your in great shape because college soccer is very demanding. Do your best and hustle in whatever drill or scrimmage that the coach puts you through. They like scrappy players who work hard

Soccer Stories – Widescreen Subtitle $19.99 This anthology contains three short stories that celebrate the Chilean people and the sport that is their national obsession, soccer. The first tale “Don’t Fall for That” takes place in Santiago and centers on Gonzalez, a minor-league player who is gulled into throwing a game by the promise of getting to the major leagues. When he finally figures out the truth, Gonzalez risks his life to save his team’s standing. In “The Last Goal Wins,” an impoverished group of boys in Northern Chile sit outside the stadium they cannot afford to enter and listen to a game. One of them, Pablo, has the good luck to nab a soccer ball that has accidentally been kicked out of the stadium after he wins a burping contest with the other boys. It becomes his prized possession. The next day, Pablo’s mother gives him the last of her jewelry so they can have food to eat. On his way home, Pablo sees the neighborhood kids playing a long soccer game and joins in. When the match finally ends, Pablo discovers his money has been stolen, and he must make a difficult decision. The final story, ” The Passion of Crowds” is the best. It concerns a college boy, Francisco, who finds himself stranded on the southern coastal island of Chiloe just as Chile’s World Cup qualifying match is about to air. Desperate to find a television set, he accepts the offer of the Seron sisters, a pair of spinsters who also invite other men to their house to watch the game. Francisco has no idea that these love-starved women have an ulterior motive for their invitation. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi |

Soccer for Moms: Game & Parenting Essentials for Healthy Kids $3.98 With more than threee million youth soccer players in the United States, there are approximately an equal number of adults driving them to and from the field, too As the popularity of soccer continues to boom, it’s becoming a very common activity that can be a tool through which parents can share healthy life skills and attitudes with their school-age children. Soccer for Moms demystifies the rules of soccer for moms (and dads ) who may have never played the game themselves, and it provides useful instruction if they need to coach a game. Aside from actual rules of the game, "rules of life" are also shared and suggested in a friendly format. The book builds on the team-centered focus of soccer and also provides a wealth of useful information on improving kids’ healthy life skills, such as nutrition, fitness, teamwork, relationships, discipline, sportsmanship, safety, and even fundraising. Parents will feel ready to "get in the game" when they’re encouraged and empowered to share in their children’s excitement by training and playing in their own leagues, as well as coaching and volunteering for their kids. This book fills a void in parenting information for normal, healthy school-age children and presents it in a comprehensive yet humorous guide to raising healthy soccer players from kindergarten to college. |

Soccer Stories: Historias de Futbol $15.52 This anthology contains three short stories that celebrate the Chilean people and the sport that is their national obsession, soccer.

A Writer’s Life $17 The inner workings of a writer s life, the interplay between experience and writing, are brilliantly recounted by a master of the art. Gay Talese now focuses on his own life the zeal for the truth, the narrative edge, the sometimes startling precision, that won accolades for his journalism and best-sellerdom and acclaim for his revelatory books about The New York Times (The Kingdom and the Power), the Mafia (Honor Thy Father), the sex industry (Thy Neighbor s Wife), and, focusing on his own family, the American immigrant experience (Unto the Sons). How has Talese found his subjects? What has stimulated, blocked, or inspired his writing? Here are his amateur beginnings on his college newspaper; his professional climb at The New York Times; his desire to write on a larger canvas, which led him to magazine writing at Esquire and then to books. We see his involvement with issues of race from his student days in the Deep South to a recent interracial wedding in Selma, Alabama, where he once covered the fierce struggle for civil rights. Here are his reflections on the changing American sexual mores he has written about over the last fifty years, and a striking look at the lives and their meaning of Lorena and John Bobbitt. He takes us behind the scenes of his legendary profile of Frank Sinatra, his writings about Joe DiMaggio and heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson, and his interview with the head of a Mafia family. But he is at his most poignant in talking about the ordinary men and women whose stories led to his most memorable work. In remarkable fashion, he traces the history of a single restaurant location in New York, creating anethnic mosaic of one restaurateur after the other whose dreams were dashed while a successor s were born. And as he delves into the life of a young female Chinese soccer player, we see his consuming interest in the world in its latest manifestation. In these and other r |

Boston’s Ballparks & Arenas $9.95 From the South End Grounds to Fenway Park, from Boston Garden to Gillette Stadium, the history of sports in Boston has been tied to the parks and arenas in which the teams have met and the athletes competed. Beloved but abandoned sites such as the Huntington Avenue Grounds, Braves Field, and the Garden are recalled by Boston fans with the same fondness Brooklynites feel for Ebbets Field, while contemporary stadiums maintain the region’s proud athletic tradition. This is the first book to tell the story of sports in Boston through the stories of these venues. Foulds gives pride of place to the region’s nine best-known sites, with numerous anecdotes about such fabled teams as the Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics along the way. But he also considers parks that have been all but forgotten, such as the Worcester County Fairgrounds, once an official National League ballpark despite the presence of a tree in left field, or Lincoln Park, the former home of black baseball in Boston. And in addition to such milestones as the first World Series and the achievements of the great Cy Young, he also recalls the Hub’s support for soccer, tennis, lacrosse and, of course, the Boston Marathon. In this illustrated history, Foulds documents the variety and vibrancy of Boston sports for over a century. This history, he shows, is firmly grounded in the stories of the sites where the games have been played. Sites include: Nine Wonders of the Boston Sports World: South End Grounds, Huntington Avenue Grounds, Fenway Park, Braves Field, Boston Arena, Boston Garden, FleetCenter, Foxboro Stadium, Gillette Stadium The Forgotten Parks: Dartmouth Street Grounds, Congress Street Grounds, WorcesterCounty Agricultural Fairgrounds, Sam Mark’s Stadium, Balmoral Park, Lincoln Park Pressed Into Service: Harvard Stadium, Revere Beach Bicycle Tracks, Malden Stadium, GE Field, Everett Stadium, Boston College Alumni Stadium, Walter Brown Arena, Volpe Center, Bowditch Field, Olympic venues |

Soccer In Oneonta $19.99 Soccer in Oneonta was practically nonexistent until the 1950s. Rural schools in the region played the game because it was inexpensive and, in many cases, because the schools could not field six- or eleven-man football teams. The first organized soccer team began in 1955 at what was then called Oneonta State Teachers College, today’s State University of New York College at Oneonta, and a year later, a team formed at Hartwick College. Both teams improved their skills in the 1960s and 1970s, and eventually the town was home to national champions from both schools. Interest spread to Oneonta High School, and youth soccer leagues became tremendously popular. Soccer in Oneonta depicts the teams, the players, the sport, and how this city in the northern Catskills got its nickname, Soccertown, USA. |
